A rugby club has announced plans to apply for permission to install new facilities in the heart of Radlett for one of the fastest-growing sports in the country.
Tabard RFC (TRFC) have teamed up with padel centre company PadelStars with the aim of delivering four new covered courts for the sport on the club’s premises. Padel is a racket sport which is a mix of tennis and squash, and is played on a smaller court than tennis.
A club hut and social area are also listed as part of the proposal, which is yet to be submitted to Hertsmere Borough Council. The scheme is aiming to deliver all-weather play and a welcoming environment for players of all abilities.
TRFC chairman Philip Calnan said: “We’re delighted to be partnering with PadelStars to introduce padel to Radlett. It’s a dynamic and sociable sport that we believe will quickly attract a strong following locally.
“We’re also grateful to Aldenham Parish Council for their support in bringing another exciting sport to the King George V Playing Fields.”

The news follows the opening of a new set of padel courts on London Road in Shenley in February.
