A Watford man has been jailed for more than five years after pleading guilty to being in possession of a firearm and ammunition.
Mark Brummitt was arrested after a search warrant was carried out in September 2024 as part of an investigation by Hertfordshire Constabulary’s specialist organised crime team, Operation Relentless.
During the search, officers recovered a Glock pistol and 31 rounds of ammunition from an address in North Watford. The pistol had been converted to be able to fire on an automatic basis, making it particularly dangerous.
Brummitt, 21, of The Gossamers, Watford, was arrested and later charged with firearms offences. He was sentenced at St Albans Crown Court on Friday, March 21, to five years and four months in prison, for possession of a prohibited weapon and ammunition.
A spokesperson for Hertfordshire Constabulary’s Operation Relentless team said: “Following the increase in violent crime in Watford, particularly that involving firearms, the Operation Relentless team had been carrying out an investigation into the organised crime networks operating in the town.
“We will not leave any stone unturned pursuing organised crime groups that trade in or use firearms in the course of their offending. The removal of weapons from the streets of Watford will undoubtedly prevent violence and serious injury. As demonstrated, even possession of a firearm is likely to result in a lengthy prison sentence.”
