FELINE FRIENDS: Rickmansworth cat rescue centre prepares for open day

Published on: 18th May 2022   |   By: Bryn Holmes   |   Category: Uncategorized

A recently formed cat rescue charity in Rickmansworth is looking forward to welcoming visitors for it’s first ever open day.

Precious Paws was started in 2020, by Jacqui Schafer, who has also been owner of the Convivial Cats cattery in Springwell Lane for over 20 years.

The rescue started when she realised the number of unwanted cats and kittens during the pandemic, and the organisation has now managed to rehome more than 100 feline friends, accepting all moggies who need a place in the local area, provided there’s space.

However, the financial demands of running such an operation can take their toll. All cats brought into the rescue are given vet check-ups, the correct vaccinations, flea and worming treatments and more, which can all also lead to further check-ups. Upkeep and food costs also make an impact.

Thus, Precious Paws are trying to raise awareness of their work and mission in two different ways. Firstly, they’re appealing to Rickmansworth residents and beyond to consider donating or even fostering a cat, which can be highly rewarding.

Secondly, they’re holding an open day at their location in Springwell Lane, Harefield, Rickmansworth, WD3 8UR, which will take place on Saturday, June 25 from 10am to 3pm.

While the event won’t feature the cats, as the situation would be too stressful for them, visitors can sign up for a future appointment to rehome or foster one of them on the day. There will also be a cake sale, a raffle and refreshments available to buy.
