Across the year, our community joins in celebrating hope, peace, and friendship and the Radlett Reform Synagogue and Christ Church Radlett came together to celebrate their interfaith collaboration, creating The Memory Café.
The Memory Café began in 2023 to respond to the growing need for an inclusive, supportive space for people living with dementia and their carers.
Born out of a friendship between the local Rabbi and the Vicar, who began working together on Remembrance Sunday services and wondered how they could collaborate more, the café now runs every two weeks.
Speaking to RADLETTnews, Rabbi Paul said: “We were approached with the suggestion of starting a memory café in Radlett as these have been successful in other locations.
“We decided that rather than simply providing a venue, we wanted to create something special between both congregations.
“The Memory Café is a wonderful example of how much more we can do together in collaboration. By working alongside people of other faiths, it shows us just how much we share, in terms of compassion, care and community.”
The café is unique, and sessions alternate between Radlett Reform Synagogue and Christ Church Vision Hall with volunteers from both communities working together.
Speaking to RADLETTnews an attendee said: “The Café has created a community. I’ve made friends here I never would have met otherwise.”
Another revealed: “I recently received a dementia diagnosis and the Café has been a sanctuary for me and my wife.”
Plans are already underway to expand from fortnightly to weekly sessions, reflecting the café’s success and the urgent need it meets.
