Published on: 23rd May 2023   |   By: News Bulletin   |   Category: Uncategorized

Two men have been charged with burglary following a vehicle stop in Watford yesterday (May 22), after reports that several catalytic converters had been stolen from a local car dealership.

At around 10am, police were called to report that a catalytic converter theft was in progress at Beadles Land Rover dealership in the Lower High Street.

Officers attended and conducted a search of the area, utilising CCTV systems, before successfully locating the suspect vehicle in St Albans Road.

Utilising plain clothed officers from the Operation Scorpion Unit in unmarked police vehicles, and Road Policing Unit officers, the vehicle was brought to a tactical stop.

Two people were arrested at the scene. Officers located approximately £4,000 worth of suspected stolen car parts in the rear of the vehicle.

Jack Burgess, 33, and Danny Milward, 35, were both subsequently charged with burglary with intent to steal. Burgess was also charged with using a motor vehicle on a road without third party insurance.

They have both been released on police bail ahead of their next court appearance at St Albans Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, June 27.

Hertfordshire Constabulary advise that you always call 999 if you see someone acting suspiciously in the vicinity of your, or any other, vehicle. A crime could potentially be in progress and by calling 999 you are giving officers the best possible chance to attend immediately and detain any suspects.
