Northwood and Ruislip residents have launched a petition after news that Hillingdon Council have proposed a charge for the collection of a household’s garden waste.
Last month, Northwood news reported that residents across Hillingdon were up in arms following a council consultation, detailing proposals to introduce a £70 charge for the collection of garden waste in 2025/26.
An ePetition was launched and signed by 1181 residents sharing key objections to the case, including the rising cost of living, the sufficient amount of tax paid by residents, burden on residents who do not wish to subscribe to the collection and that the charge would be “divisive”. It closed on Monday, March 31 with 1181 signatures.
The petition states: “The ‘Garden waste collection service consultation’ is biased, unfair and undemocratic as it does not allow residents to opt out of the charge for 2025/26 for the collection of a household’s garden waste.

A spokesperson for the council responded: “This petition, along with the wider consultation responses, will be duly considered and taken into account by Cabinet Members in due course when making any decision on the matter.”
A decision is yet to be made by the council as Northwood news goes to print.
As pensioner I can’t afford this charge. I have the smallest garden on the estate in Hayes. I will cancel my direct debit for the council tax. And pay it another way. It seems if you were born here then they would like to rip you off.
