‘TREASURE TROVE’: Popular community book hub launches new express version in Pinner

The Pinner and Eastcote Book Hub, run by Pinner resident Miriam Gordon-Linton, has partnered with TAG Drinks to open a smaller version of the much-loved hub.

Speaking to Pinnernews, Miriam said: “The book hub wasn’t meant to be a book hub. During lockdown when people were doing their 20-minute walks, people would walk down Eastern Avenue as it is about 20 minutes long.

“So, me and my daughter left a box of books outside our home, telling residents to help themselves. The next thing we knew, we had people asking to donate their books!”

The hub has grown exponentially over the years, with the local community coming together to raise £1,500 to buy a telephone box in which to store the books. Miriam even renovated a room in her home to keep the books not in use.

After Daisy, manager of TAG Drinks, contacted Miriam about the idea for a smaller book hub, the Pinner and Eastcote Book Hub Express was born. It is now open at TAG Drinks on the same road as the original hub.

The café headed to social media where they said: “We’re thrilled to announce the arrival of our very own little library right here at TAG! With books lent to us from the famous phone box library down the road, our Book Hub Express offers a treasure trove of books waiting to be discovered and shared.”

Miriam added: “With the characters and stories, I could write my own book! I had people coming along during lockdown who hadn’t read in 15 years and borrowed one book, and now can’t get enough!

“As long as the community loves it, I will keep doing it.”
