TOP OF THE LEAGUE: Berkhamsted leapfrog Halesowen Town after 1-0 victory

Published on: 3rd March 2020   |   By: Geraint Roberts   |   Category: Berkhamsted F.C

Berkhamsted have moved to the top of the BetVictor Southern Central after beating Halesowen Town at home tonight (March 3) thanks Jonathan Lacey’s second half goal.

The Comrades were two points behind their opponents at the start of the match, but now lead the way by a point.

The first 45 minutes were evenly contested, with Halesowen arguably having the better of the half.

Jack Holmes and Ashley Sammons in particular looked dangerous for the away side, but neither could convert their half chances into goals.

Halesowen continued their dominance into the second half, with Sammons once again having a shooting opportunity, but goalkeeper Xavier Comas-Leon was equal to it.

Despite the Yeltz controlling the game away from home, it was Berkhamsted who stole the lead on the 67th minute thanks to the prolific Lacey, when a breakaway led to him finishing brilliantly past the Halesowen number one.

Berkhamsted now had a lead to defend, as well as the prospect of going top of the league at full time.

Holmes went close once more on the 77th minute, but this time his shot went narrowly wide of the post.

The Comrades held on for what is a vital three points in their quest for promotion.

Despite having played two games more than Halesowen, they will still feel that this a vital moment in their season, and attentions now turn to Saturday as they travel to St Neots Town.
