A Bushey man has pleaded guilty to using a Zip Oyster card meant for 11 to 15 year olds.
Harry McKenna, 20, of Koh-I-Noor Avenue, admitted using the Zip card, which belonged to his little sister, a total of 81 times.
He appeared at Lavender Hill Magistrates’ Court on October 17 charged with using a travel mandate issued for another person.
His little sister’s card was non-transferable with Transport for London (TfL) confirming to Bushey News that they analysed McKenna’s journey history after he was initially caught in May.
That analysis purported the use of the card an additional 80 times, which McKenna admitted.
He was fined £60 as well as being ordered to pay £243.65 in compensation, £200 in costs, and a £24 surcharge.
It follows a commitment by TfL earlier this year to take tougher measures against fare evaders.
Siwan Hayward, TfL’s director of security, policing and enforcement, said: “Fare evasion is a criminal offence. It robs Londoners of vital investment in a safe, frequent and reliable transport. We strive to ensure that wherever possible it is fare evaders themselves, not fare or tax payers, pay the cost of fare evasion.”
