LATE DISAPPOINTMENT: Northwood beaten by late Marlow stunner

Published on: 3rd March 2020   |   By: Geraint Roberts   |   Category: Northwood F.C

Northwood couldn’t build off their victory from the weekend after the side who they beat came back to haunt them tonight (March 3) after a stunning late strike from Isaac Olorunfemi.

The Woods played Marlow for the second time in four days, after they picked up their first victory in the reverse fixture on Saturday, February 29.

After a quiet opening 10 minutes, the first opportunity of the game came for Marlow’s Kameron English, who managed to get a low and hard shot away from distance but it went just wide.

Ahmed Elsahib had Northwood’s first chance after some good individual work allowed him to get a shot away, but it was harmlessly deflected wide.

Marlow controlled most of the first half, but Northwood were defending resolutely away from home, which new manager Robert Ursell has instilled into them.

Devontae Romeo saw his shot well saved by Northwood goalkeeper Tyla Dickinson on the 61st minute, as the second half continued in the same way as the first.

On the 75th minute, Northwood’s defence was finally stunned when Olorunfemi unleashed a piledriver from around thirty yards out which cannoned into the top corner of the net.

Marlow held on comfortably in the end for all three points, but Northwood musn’t let their heads drop too much as their challenge to remain in the division continues next weekend at home to Ashford Town.
