PANTO PERFECTION: ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ at the Harrow Arts Centre review

Published on: 24th December 2022   |   By: News Bulletin   |   Category: Uncategorized

The pantomime is as iconic a curtain-opener for Christmas in Britain as last minute trips to the shops for presents for loved ones, and Immersion Theatre’s ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ certainly went above and beyond expectations, sending the festive spirit into full swing.

Each member of the cast brought so much light and energy to the stage, the crowd encapsulated by a bright and warm display that brilliantly contrasted with the cold and dark winter we find ourselves in. And isn’t that the purpose of the panto? To lighten our load during the latter end of the year?

Jack and the Beanstalk certainly did that. It was an incredible production, displayed in front of a wonderfully crafted set with music and a script that evoked equal parts admiration and laughter from the theatre audience. In what was a first for me, the cast went above and beyond to ensure the audience felt immersed in the performance by squirting water on those (un)lucky enough to be sat at the front! The ever-singing Jack did a wonderful job of guiding the audience through the colourful journey the characters went along.

It was truly a perfect show for all ages, and something truly silly, immensely enjoyable, and strangely heart-warming that anyone with time should endeavour to see.
