FROZEN RUBBISH: Rickmansworth bins left behind after contents freeze during cold spell

Published on: 24th December 2022   |   By: Bryn Holmes   |   Category: Uncategorized

Dustmen were unable to collect some Rickmansworth residents’ rubbish last month after plummeting temperatures meant the contents inside the bins were frozen.

In a tweet explaining the situation, Three Rivers District Council said: “Despite our best efforts, we have been unable to empty some of the bins as the contents were frozen.

“We are unable to return until the next scheduled collection. We understand you’ll be frustrated by this but can assure you there is nothing more the crew could have done.”

They also clarified that binmen could not return for frozen bins after they had been thawed out and shared some tips on how to prevent this from happening.

This includes loosening the contents by sliding a spade or similar object between the contents and the inside of the bin and filling your bin on the day of collection if possible.

After a flurry of snow hit Hertfordshire and other parts of the UK on Sunday, December 11, several services were disrupted, with motorways clogged up and rail and bus services cancelled.
