An urgent appeal has been launched to restore a bell tower which has been part of Bushey’s history for 700 years.
The bell tower at St James’ Church is in need of vital restoration work to preserve the landmark after weather and time have taken their toll.
Fundraisers say that an initial target of £30,000 needs to be raised for stage one – restoring the roof of the tower.
A spokesperson for the fundraising committee which has been set to help reach the target said: “Without the support of the wider community, this will be a mammoth task. We desperately need Bushey residents to support us in various ways; supporting events, joining the committee or support team, financial contributions, etc.”
More than £1,000 has been raised so far following a curry supper and quiz night. Other fundraising plans include more quiz suppers, a coronation celebration and much more.
