39-0: Zero arrests made in connection with burglaries in Abbots Langley

Herts Police suffered a 39-0 defeat against burglars last year as data revealed that zero arrests were made in connection with reported burglaries in Abbots Langley.

As revealed to ABBOTS News in a Freedom of Information request, a total of 39 cases of burglary or attempted burglary were reported to police in the Leavesden ward and Abbots Langley & Bedmond ward in 2022. These included 11 reports in both wards of burglaries from residential dwellings, with no cases leading to an arrest.

Zooming out to the whole of Three Rivers, results are particularly stark. Across the district, there were 347 reported burglaries, including 220 at residential dwellings.

Out of all these reported incidents, just one – from Chorleywood – resulted in an arrest.

A spokesperson for Herts Police said: “We understand the devasting impact that burglary has on victims, and as a matter of course we attend all reports of burglary in the county. We will always do everything we can to investigate, gather available evidence and bring offenders to justice.

“We are also absolutely committed to doing all we can to prevent offences from occurring in the first place. Patrols have been increased and we regularly provide crime prevention advice to residents around how to keep their homes more secure through seasonal campaigns and community engagement events.

“Local officers have also been out with crime prevention colleagues, to proactively knock on doors, speak to residents, hand out crime prevention packs and sign people up to our Neighbourhood Watch OWL messaging system.

“If you have any concerns, or witness any suspicious activity, please report it to police straightaway. We’d rather attend to find that everything is all in order than miss an opportunity to catch a potential criminal.”
