‘GREAT OCCASION’: Stanmore synagogue continues ‘inspiring’ community work on Mitzvah Day

Members of Stanmore & Canons Park Synagogue (SCPS) continued their good deeds for Mitzvah Day by working together to benefit people both locally and internationally.

In November’s Stanmore & Edgware News, we reported that SCPS completed an interfaith gardening project on Sunday, October 27, ahead of Mitzvah Day, which aims to create positive change in local communities.

SCPS continued their community work on Sunday, November 24, making soup for a Harrow homeless charity and collecting tons of clothes, toys and food supplies for those in need.

The synagogue’s youngest members made stencil cards for international charity Save A Child’s Heart, planted flowers in decorated pots for local housing association jLiving, and made dog toys for the National Animal Welfare Trust.

Meanwhile, the oldest members enjoyed afternoon tea accompanied by big band music and tap dancing by The Satin Dollz, an internationally acclaimed musical act.

They were joined for tea by Bob Blackman CBE, MP for Harrow East, who said: “Mitzvah Day is a great occasion to encourage everyone from all faiths and backgrounds to come together and make the world a better place through social action. It provides an inspiring example and reminder of the generosity humankind is capable of.”

Councillors Amir Moshenson and Zak Wagman also attended the event.

Corinne Linskell, chair of Mitzvah Day activities at SCPS, said: “This year’s Mitzvah Day theme of ‘Stronger Together’ was in full evidence on Sunday with people of all age groups and skills working together to achieve such a memorable and worthwhile communal event.

“We are delighted that so many people have come together to have such a positive impact.”
