OFSTED INSPECTION: Report reveals nursery in Hemel Hempstead ‘requires improvement’

A nursery in Hemel Hempstead ‘requires improvement’, according to an Ofsted report published on January 10.

Cherry Tree Bilingual Day Nursery and Pre-School was inspected on December 1 last year.

The quality of education, behaviour and attitudes; personal development; and leadership and management were all rated as ‘requires improvement’. The overall effectiveness at the previous inspection was ‘inadequate’.

The assessment revealed that staff sometimes “overlooked” opportunities to build on children’s interests and extend their knowledge as they played.

It also mentioned that staff were preoccupied with routines and didn’t always see that some children were not taking part in purposeful play.

By January 31, they were required to enhance the key-person system by tailoring it to children’s needs.

By February 28, they must “improve and embed the implementation of the curriculum, including staff’s interactions with the children”. They also need to focus on building the staff’s knowledge to improve the quality of teaching.

The nursery has been contacted for comment.
