An 11 year old from Bushey has rallied to raise almost £2,000 after her cousin tragically passed away.

Annie Chance decided to take on 300,000 steps throughout the month of August in memory of her cousin Tommy who passed away after being diagnosed with a POLG related mitochondrial disease.

Walking around 10,000 steps a day Annie raised almost £2,000 and raised vital awareness of charity The Lily Foundation who supported Tommy and his parents.

Speaking to BusheyNews Annie’s dad Shaine said it was a massive shock to the family when Tommy passed away at Annie wanted to do something to raise awareness and support the charity.

He said: “Initially Annie wanted to donate some of her birthday money but instead we decided to walk 300,000 steps across August to raise as much money as possible.

“The fundraising page just blew up, we never expected these kind of donations which is just incredible, people are donating for Annie but it’s also about raising awareness.”

Shaine added that Annie is incredibly proud of herself and is happy to see her hard work benefiting the charity.

He said: “She was quite overwhelmed with the support she has received and some of the support she has received has made her quite emotional.

“She knows that the money is going to help people who are going through what she her uncle and auntie experiencing.”

The family have set up a Facebook page to document Annie’s progress in the challenge. Check it out here.
