A notorious width restriction in Watford has installed new posts which will hopefully solve the problem of crashing cars.
Woodmere Avenue’s new yellow posts were installed last month following a decade of incidents.
The 7ft-wide width restriction became an issue that caused many crashes and even some cars to be written off and tipped onto its side. The viral videos were captured on a Ring doorbell camera.
Residents and drivers say the feature, meant to prevent larger vehicles from using the route as a shortcut, has caused problems for many years, due to the road’s flat kurb, many accidentally hit the bollards.
A spokesperson for Hertfordshire County Council said: “The main construction work to improve the Woodmere Avenue width restriction has been completed but there are a few minor measures for completion by 30 August, while the road is closed. These measures include the full installation and checking of signs and road markings, as well as painting the island kerbs and cleaning the road surface. We will also take the opportunity, during the road closure, to resurface Woodmere Avenue between Douglas Avenue and Bushey Mill Lane.”
