Residents can now recycle their coffee pods at Rickmansworth Recycling Centre thanks to a new trial scheme.
In partnership with Podback, the scheme aims to reduce the amount of coffee pods that end up in landfill.
Used pods should be taken to the recycling centre where they should be separated into the aluminium and plastic Podback containers for them to go on to be recycled.
The trial is also taking place in Harpenden and Ware. If it is successful, Hertfordshire County Council (HCC) will look to roll out the service county-wide.
Councillor Eric Buckmaster, HCC’s executive member for the environment, said: “Coffee drinkers can now enjoy their coffee knowing their pods can be recycled and go on to be made into new products, renewable energy and improve the soil. We are always looking for innovative recycling methods which highlight our commitment to lead on sustainable waste management and demonstrate our ambition to send zero waste to landfill by 2030.”
Speaking to Rickynews, a spokesperson for Sustainable Three Rivers said: “I’m delighted that the Podback scheme is coming to Rickmansworth.”
