A golfer born and raised in Pinner has won his first PGA Tour event.
Matt Wallace turned professional in 2012 and has since triumphed at a number of events in top golfing tours across the globe. Despite an excellent career that saw him break into the world’s top 50 players, the glory of winning on the PGA Tour had previously eluded him.
That was until Wallace entered the Corales Puntacana Championship in the Dominican Republic, where four days of breath-taking golf saw him finish on 19 under par and one stroke ahead of the Danish Nicolai Højgaard in second place.
After the championship, Matt said: “Winning on the PGA Tour for the first time is huge and after five years without a victory, to get the biggest of my career really is very special.”
Days after winning on the PGA Tour in Wallace’s 80th attempt, he was back on the course at Valero Texas Championship, competing against star names such as Rickie Fowler and Matt Kuchar for an invitation in the Masters.
Wallace didn’t manage to win a place at Augusta but has reached his career-high ranking of 23rd in the world, and has no doubt set his sights on securing another PGA event win to his name.
