A vehicle caught on fire on the M25 near Watford earlier today (Monday, September 16).

Just after 3pm emergency services received multiple calls that reported a van had caught on fire between Junctions 20 and 21.

Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene and crews located a van on the hard shoulder.

One lane of the motorway was closed off while they attempted to tackle the fire.

Assistant Chief Fire Officer Mark Barber said: “We sent two fire engines to the scene, where the crews located a van well alight on the hard shoulder of the motorway.

“Firefighters closed one lane of the motorway while they tackled the fire, which was successfully extinguished by 3.25pm. Nobody was hurt and we have handed the scene over to National Highways.”
