SAVE OUR BUS: Chorleywood residents’ pleas for ‘lifeline’ bus service to keep going

A local resident has expressed concern that a relatively new bus service between the village and Amersham could be closed down due to low passenger numbers.

Jocelyn Menyhart is a regular user of the 355/356 bus service between Watford and Amersham, via Chorleywood, which was introduced earlier this year after the redirection of Carousel Buses’ 103 service away from the area.

Speaking to ChorleywoodNews, she said: “I think the drivers are brilliant, and its always on time. It is a pared down service compared to the old one, but it’s fantastic.”

However, the service, which is operated by Arriva in partnership with Hertfordshire County Council (HCC), is currently on a year’s trial, and Jocelyn worries that that due to its admittedly low passenger rate, the powers that be could decide to end the route.

“It [the service] is a lifeline, but it might close due to lack of passengers, which would be devastating to me personally.

“It’s so important to use these services, especially on a global level, as we need to try and steer away from using cars so much to protect the environment. Public transport is the future.”

Jocelyn now wants to raise awareness of the service in the village so that more people use it.

A spokesperson for Arriva said: “The 335/336 is a service operated by Arriva on behalf of HCC, at this time we are aware of no planned changes to the service.”

HCC said: “There are currently no plans to withdrawal this service, which is financially supported by both Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire councils. The current timetable appears to be performing within expectations.

“There may well be further discussions with Buckinghamshire County Council to see if some of the cross-boundary connections could be improved in the future, though nothing has yet been agreed.”
