SWORD SHOCK: Pinner resident hands in Second World War weapon to police team

Published on: 16th September 2024   |   By: The Newsdesk   |   Category: Uncategorized

An elderly resident shocked the Pinner Safer Neighbourhood Team this month after handing in a historical machete.

Earlier this month, North Harrow and Pinner Safer Neighbourhood Teams revealed that they had paid a visit to an elderly resident who wanted to hand in a large knife.

This comes after the government announced in January that a surrender and compensation scheme would be launched this summer to prevent people from owning zombie knives and machetes. The full ban of knives came into force this month. Officers have been working to get these knives off the streets as soon as possible while giving people in possession an opportunity to hand them in without legal implications.

In a post on social media, the MPS Harrow team said: “The resident informed us he had owned what we believe to be a Second World War kukri knife for 60 years but could not remember its origin story.

“With help from Pinner South SNT, officers are hoping to get its authenticity verified for it to be taken to a museum where it belongs!”
