TUNE IN: St Albans singer provides much-needed boost with free online concerts for the community

A talented singer-songwriter from St Albans has been putting on free online concerts to help spread positivity and offer a connection to those in the community during lockdown.

Grace George, 23, regularly performed at gigs around the country before the pandemic but has been forced to adapt as live performances have been halted.

As many events have gone virtual this year, Grace decided to join them and is hosting regular free online concerts on Facebook and Instagram to help people through these difficult times.

Grace told StAlbansNews why the events are so important, she said: “They will increase positivity in houses and give people something to look forward to.

“It’s horrible outside at the moment and it’s just something people can engage with and make them feel like they’re a part of something.”

Speaking after her first live concert in a while, which took place on February 5, Grace said: “It’s been really good fun. Lots of people joined and I was giving lots of people shout outs. I think people really connected with that which was special.

“It’s nice because people who wouldn’t normally come to my gigs at the same time because they live in different places could all come online and see me in one place.”

Grace added that the concerts are helping to keep her going after a challenging year which has had both its ups and downs.

She said: “It’s definitely been a challenging year but I’ve been more productive than I’ve ever been and I think a lot of artists have.

“This quarantine period has been such a lift for creativity and artists have been able to produce as much art as we can because we have a lot more time.”

Grace also shared her excitement about how the pandemic has changed the music industry and opened new opportunities for collaborations.

She said: “The pandemic has encouraged me to collaborate in a way I’ve never collaborated before.

“Everyone is writing over Zoom now which has never happened before, if anything I think more international collaboration will come out of this.”

Her next live concert will be on Friday, February 19 at 7pm and will be suitable for all ages.
