Paratrooper and former Chalfonts Community College student Jerry Gilbert sadly passed away on Monday, January 27, following a short illness.
Instead of flowers, Jerry asked for donations to The British Airborne Forces Club (BAFC) – a brotherhood of ex and serving members of The Parachute Regiment and Airborne Forces.
Over 20 years ago, a group of former paratroopers decided to form BAFC to raise money for veterans who “have fallen on hard times”.
From helping those at risk of homelessness to providing a sense of community, BAFC has grown to encompass over 1,500 members.
In January, BAFC were made aware of a former paratrooper who had suffered a stroke and was unable to pay for a mobility aid. Thanks to the support of donators, BAFC were able to secure him a mobility scooter which will be “life-changing”.
Chair of BAFC Nick Butler, who spent some time in the regiment with Jerry, said: “He was a great character and brilliant soldier. He will be sadly missed by everyone who knew him.
“Jerry wanted to make a difference. We do our work as volunteers because we want to help people.”
