A Chorleywood resident is helping keep the village’s youngsters fit with free and easy fitness classes on YouTube.
Nicky Edwards, founder of Chiltern Physiotherapy in Chorleywood decided to set up Kids Fun Fitness classes after seeing her 10-year-old daughter struggle with following Joe Wicks’ PE classes.
Speaking to ChorleywoodNews she said: “Lots of schools are encouraging their pupils to do Joe Wicks PE. While I love Joe Wicks and admire and appreciate everything that he is doing to keep our kids active, I am very aware from personal experience with my daughter, that he isn’t great for everyone.
“During the first lockdown my daughter tried Joe Wicks PE and survived about five minutes before turning it off disheartened and upset that she couldn’t do it. That was it. PE completely out the window and a 10-year-old’s opinion that she is “rubbish” at PE reinforced.”
Nicky wants her kids – she has a 3-year-old too – to be active and she’s aware in winter time it’s cold and dark therefore difficult to exercise outside.
She continued: “I thought to combat that by setting these classes, they’re much lower intensity and more inclusive.
“It’s been designed to target primary age children. I always have a slightly easier version of the exercise available. We tell stories on the way, in fact, we have been superheroes, avengers, we’ve been to the circus. Because you’re story-telling I don’t think children realise they’re doing exercise. The key is getting them moving in any way possible.”
The classes are live on YouTube every Monday, Wednesday, Friday at 1pm; 8.30 am on Tuesdays and 3.30pm on Thursdays.
