A school in St Albans is celebrating after being ranked as one of the top 100 schools nationally for sport.

Beaumont School was ranked 71st in School Sport Magazine which judges its rankings on outcomes in National competitions. Their list includes both state and independent schools.

It’s the second year in a row the school has been placed having come 196th in 2022.

This places the school as the top ranked state school in Hertfordshire and in the top 15 state schools in the country.

The school’s sporting prowess has been demonstrated recently with the U13 girls’ football team just one game away from getting to Wembley.

That is after they won the area final in the EFL Utilita Cup after beat local schools to earn the right to represent Watford FC in the competition.

At the area finals they topped their group, going unbeaten against Luton Town, Swindon Town, Coventry City and West Brom. A 3-0 semi-final win against Walsall lead to a tense final, where they found themselves behind against Reading, before coming back to win 3-1 to become champions.

The team will now go through to the national south finals and if they qualify from this, will get the chance to play at Wembley Stadium before the EFL play off finals.

Mr Tolley, from the school’s PE department, said: “We know the girls will gain experiences to last a lifetime from this run in the competition and they are now one step away from playing at Wembley Stadium.”

Meanwhile he was also delighted with the school’s national sport ranking.

He added: “It’s excellent that the hard work of students, staff and our parents/carers has been recognised in this way. It’s been a true team effort to develop our extra- curricular programme over the last few years and give our students to opportunities to compete at the highest level.”
