Entangled within Pinner’s rich history is the legacy of Lord Nelson and Emma, Lady Hamilton.
Considered one of the greatest naval commanders in history, Horatio Nelson helped to secure several British naval victories during the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars.
While serving in the Mediterranean, he met and embarked on a highly public affair with Lady Emma.
Their illegitimate daughter, Horatia Nelson, lived in Pinner and was buried in Paines Lane Cemetery.
On Thursday, April 10, the Pinner Local History Society welcomed Lord Nelson’s four-times great-granddaughter, Lily Style, to the village.
Hosted by the society’s chairman, members of both the Emma Hamilton Society and Nelson Society joined Lily in walking in Horatia’s footsteps and visited areas connected with the family, including the places they had lived.
Lily also presented a talk titled ‘Horatia’s Life in Pinner’ in front of over 100 members and visitors.
In a post on social media, the society shared: “We would like to thank Lily and her family for the hard work and time spent putting the day together. An interesting and very full day.”
