‘EXPRESS MYSELF’: New Radlett exhibition showcases artist’s cancer recovery

A local woman’s art exhibition has stunned at The Radlett Centre this month, inspired by her recovery from breast cancer.

Lisa Patnick was diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer in 2019, and she was invited to join an art therapy session shortly after.

Speaking to Radlett News, Lisa shared: “I got hooked. I had no idea how to paint but it was more about how it kept me positive, helping me express myself with colour. My journey since has been quite amazing; I encourage all cancer sufferers to give it a go.”

Lisa’s style of painting is distinctive because of the amount of colour used, which she likes to think symbolises the progression of her life since her cancer diagnosis, “from darkness to light”.

She dedicated her exhibition, which is on display for the whole month of May, to Melody Moss, who sadly passed away from breast cancer.

The pair met during their journeys with the disease, and Melody’s impact on Lisa led her to dedicate a piece of art to her. The proceeds of the piece will go to a charity of Melody’s family’s choosing.

Lisa has also helped fundraise for Future Dreams, a breast cancer charity. At the start of May, she took part in their Fashion Show, held in London, which featured 35 models from the breast cancer community gracing the catwalk.

She added: “When I do that, I will be thinking of Melody.”
