TABLES TOPPED: Stanmore Table Tennis Club celebrates success in recent competitions

Four Stanmore Table Tennis Club (STTC) players have been ranked in the top 10 in England and Wales.

At the end of last month, Under 15 player Isabella Turner-Samuels (pictured right) was crowned champion after winning the Cadets Welsh National tournament for her age range. Despite living in England, both Isabella and her sister Eleanor play in Welsh competitions due to their heritage. Isabella and Eleanor are now ranked in the top 10 for Wales.

Meanwhile, in the top 10 for England are STTC’s Under 13 player Nishil Shah and Under 11 player Maahi Malde.

STTC also entered three teams of 11 players into the National Cadet League Under 15s, as well as the National Junior League Under 19s in England.

Stanmore Junior players Joshua Fernandes, Shayan Parmar and Ryan Tailor entered Division 1 and took home the gold following round-robin competitions from December to March. Stanmore Cadets Sayan Shah, Rohan Parmar and Aaron Lakhani took the gold in the Cadets Division 2 event.

Meanwhile, at county level, Under 15 Stanmore player Janak Shah was chosen to represent his county in the highest league of the Under 19 tournament. He helped his team win the gold in the Premier division event.

Janak and Isabella then teamed up for the National County Juniors Division 2 alongside three other Middlesex players. They faced the top counties in England but came out on top to win the tournament.

Part of the young players’ success derives from the presence of excellent coaches at STTC. In fact, STTC coach Joel Fernandes doubles up as the Middlesex County Juniors and Cadets Coach.

Club spokesperson Barry said: “Across the board, Stanmore teams have excelled in local, county-level and national competitions such as the National Junior and Cadet Leagues.

“There are so many success stories that you won’t be able to fit them all into one article!”
