SUPER SWIMMERS: Hemel Hempstead swimmers leave championships with haul of 15 medals

Berkhamsted and Hemel Hempstead’s Masters swimmers joined forces to compete at the British Masters Championships at Ponds Forge in Sheffield, collecting a whopping total of 15 medals.

Of the Hemel Hempstead Masters swimmers, Dave Pirrie broke his own regional record in the 100m breast. His time of 1:25.95 updated his own record as he claimed the gold medal in his age group. He went on to take a further gold in the 200m breast and bronze in the 200m individual medley, as well as claiming silver in the 50m breast.

Mark Ayres took on five events, and won silver in the 100m fly.

The final swimmer of the group was Hilary Coulson, who picked up a bronze medal in the 200m back and also set seven club records.

Both teams combined for the relay events, winning gold in the 4 x 200m mixed relay and silver in the mixed 4 x 100m medley event. The total for the Hemel Hempstead Masters swimmers was an amazing six medals, and they finished in the top 30 of the 99 clubs attending.
