It’s extremely rare to see a footballer playing in the ninth tier of English football with the stature that Jake Tabor has.
The striker, who plays for Amersham Town FC, has quite an incredible record in front of goal, netting 44 times this season at the time of writing. If there’s one word people think of when Tabor comes to mind, it’s goals.
Recently, rumours have spread that the 22-year-old striker was heading to the third tier of English football. While many would have been pleased to see the talented attacker make the switch to professional football, it would have been a big blow for football in Amersham.
However, the club were able to shut down the rumour, saying on social media site X: “We can confirm this is not true.”
Speaking to Location Football in early February, Tabor admitted he’d scored so many goals during his time with Amersham that it had become “slightly boring”, but said he wanted to wait until the end of the season to consider a move so as not to leave the team without a goal scorer.
He said: “If I continue scoring, it’s going to build more of a name with more goals. By the end of the season, I’ll have more offers and opportunities, but if I jump at the first National League [level five] club, my opportunities would’ve been limited.”
Described by many as the “new Jamie Vardy” – who also famously shot up the leagues after starting down the pyramid – Tabor will be continuing his stay with Amersham, much to the delight of local supporters.
