IDYLLIC COASTLINE: Berkhamsted author’s new book explores healing relationship with nature

Published on: 8th March 2025   |   By: Owen Barnard   |   Category: Uncategorized

Berkhamsted resident Ivor Eisenstadt has released a new book set on the idyllic Suffolk Heritage Coast, exploring the ruthlessness of nature but also its power to help mental health issues.

All That Lives Must Die was published on Tuesday, January 28, and follows retired GP and widow Dr Max Middleton. He suffers self-doubt, guilt and anxiety, having misdiagnosed a child who later died, and also neglected his late wife Kathy’s early signs of cancer.

He searches for refuge from tragedy by spending time in his holiday lodge.

When he discovers the body of one of his holiday park neighbours halfway down the cliff, police label the death accidental, but Dr Middleton suspects more was at play.

Ivor said: “I was a successful healthcare publisher, who out of nowhere developed severe anxiety and found that spending time in nature had immense healing power when little else seemed to help.

“I was keen to share this experience with others and inspired to write All That Lives Must Die as a vehicle for this while spending time enjoying walks, observing my neighbours, and trying to make sense of things from my lodge on the idyllic Suffolk coast.”
