Eastcote Horticultural Society held their annual Spring Show last month, sharing beautiful displays to kick off the new season.
On Saturday, March 15, the society hosted the first show of its 85th year. It was a perfect spring day, chilly but with bright sunshine.
The stars of this show were the daffodils, with the society’s members producing some stunning examples of the various kinds of daffodils which made a beautiful display in the hall.
In celebration of the society’s 85th anniversary, the photography classes saw the most entries they had ever seen, and visitors also enjoyed delicious chocolate fudge cakes and banana loaves.
The Spring Show and Annual Awards for 2024 were presented by the Mayor of Hillingdon councillor Colleen Sullivan.
There was a special award presented on behalf of the Royal Horticultural Society, the Certificate of Recognition, which is given to someone who has gone the extra mile during the last year. This is the first time the Eastcote Horticultural Society has presented this certificate.
The Mayor gave the award to Alan Thomas, who has run the Trading Hut for the Eastcote Horticultural Society for many decades.
A spokesperson for the society said: “He leads the society’s participation at other local events and gives gardening advice to anyone in need. His knowledge and ‘green fingers’ have won him countless prizes.
“The society is indebted to Alan for his many years of service and, it is hoped, many more years to come. On receiving the award from the Mayor, Alan generously acknowledged the help he has from an active team of volunteers at the Trading Hut.”
The society is already planning for the upcoming Summer Show, which will take place at Eastcote Community Centre from 2.30pm to 4.30pm on Saturday, June 14.
