WHEELY GREAT! Iconic Pinner Rotary wheelbarrow race returns to celebrate St George’s Day

Published on: 13th April 2025   |   By: The Newsdesk   |   Category: Uncategorized

The event might not include the slaying of dragons, but the iconic wheelbarrow race and St George’s Day celebrations organised by Pinner Rotary are certainly the stuff of legends.

Now firmly established in the local calendar, the celebrations will take place in Pinner High Street from 12pm to 5pm on Sunday, April 27.

Beginning with the Scout Parade, members will renew their promise near the War Memorial in the presence of the Mayor of Harrow.

Musical entertainment will be provided by Capital Connection and Razorz, with traditional Morris dancing by the Merrydowners.

Regular favourites Punch and Judy will be making an appearance for children of all ages, together with children’s rides. There will also be a variety of community stalls and food outlets in the High Street.

New attractions this year include a classic car display in The Queen’s Head car park and a Dragon Flag Parade by Pinner Wood School pupils.

The highlight of the day is the Annual Pinner Wheelbarrow Race which starts from Little Common at 3pm and proceeds along Bridge Street and up the High Street. Finishing at Church Farm Green, prizes will be awarded to the winners and the ‘best dressed’ team.

There will be a charity bucket collection during the afternoon for causes supported by Pinner Rotary, including local charity My Yard and Northwood-based charity Help Change Lives, which works to alleviate poverty in Kenya.

Pinner Rotary’s St George’s Day celebrations are generously sponsored by Gibbs Gillespie and supported by corporate members of Pinner Rotary, The Queen’s Head and YAKO Restaurant and Bar.
