SIX GOAL THRILLER: St Albans settle for a point

Published on: 12th January 2020   |   By: Tim Green   |   Category: St Albans City F.C

St Albans City are in 20th place in the National League South after Ian Allinson’s men travelled home from Eastbourne Borough with a point.

It was St Albans who struck first blood when they hit the hosts on the counter and Zane Banton teed up Joe Iaciofano, who slotted home to put the visitors ahead after 11 minutes. Eastbourne 0 St Albans 1

The Saints kept the pressure before Eastbourne’s Wheeler beat Snedker to put the home team back on level terms sending a half volley past the Saints keeper. Eastbourne 1 St Albans 1

Celebrations were muted for the home team however as Dean Cox was shown a straight red card for a poor challenge on Tom Bender a minute after the goal.

In the second half, St Albans looked to press home the advantage of having an extra man and as the game entered its final quarter they were handed the chance to go back in front when Fielding’s cross was blocked by the arm of an Eastbourne player and the Saints were awarded a spot kick which was missed by Tom Bender.

It was the ten men who profited from the miss when they went in front three minutes later. Eastbourne 2 St Albans 1

In a hectic final quarter, Sam Merson beat an Eastbourne player to the ball and rounds the goalkeeper before turning it over the line. Eastbourne 2 St Albans 2

But as the game drew to a close, it was the home team who looked like they would claim all three points after Snedker was lobbed. Eastbourne 3 St Albans 2

As it looked like the Saints would travel home empty handed, David Noble's inch perfect ball over the top fell at the feet of James Kaloczi and he rifled home. Eastbourne 3 St Albans 3

On a dramatic afternoon, the points were shared.

St Albans are next in action when they take on Maidstone United next weekend.
