SIGN UP: Hertsmere police cadet recruitment is now open

Published on: 27th September 2021   |   By: News Bulletin   |   Category: Uncategorized

Volunteer Police Cadet groups are back up and running across Hertfordshire and new recruits are being sought to join the scheme in Hertsmere.

Police cadets are young members of the community, aged 13 to 17, who are involved in a range of policing activities and events.

As well as learning about procedures and the law, cadets also work alongside local officers to play a vital role in community events, engaging with members of the public and educating them on crime prevention.

They also take part in social activities, as well as an annual county competition where they can put skills such as stop and search, first aid and dog handling into practice.

Places are currently available at the Hertsmere group, which meets every other Tuesday evening.

Hertsmere Cadet Leader Stephanie May said: “Joining a Volunteer Police Cadet scheme is a great way to learn new skills and make friends, while also helping your local community.

“You don’t have to have ambitions to join the police but, if it is a career you are interested in pursuing, this is a great place to start.

“If you know a young person living in Hertsmere, who is seeking new challenges and to learn new skills, let them know we’re recruiting!”

David Lloyd, Police and Crime Commissioner for Hertfordshire, said: “Our Volunteer Police Cadets are a credit to our police force and to the county of Hertfordshire.

“They play a vital role in supporting the local neighbourhood teams and I would encourage people to get involved and help make a difference to the community they live in through this great scheme.”
