It has been a difficult few months for businesses across the country as we re-entered lockdown again for the second time in November.
As a result, non-essential businesses were forced to close their doors at what is normally their busiest time of the year in the run up to Christmas.
This weekend welcomes Small Business Saturday on December 5 and Sir Mike Penning MP for Hemel Hempstead is calling on local people to shop small and support local businesses.
Sir Mike Penning MP said small local shops need our support more than ever at the end of what has been a really difficult year.
He said: “This year has been unlike any other I can remember and this Christmas, more than usual, we need to do all we can to support our local small shops. I would urge everyone to think about buying local before ordering online.
“Our local shops have reopened after the second lockdown and they are dependent on our support to help them recover. Not only have they had to close for long periods, they have also had to invest in COVID safety measures. Let’s give them the support they need.
“In Westminster, I will continue to make the case to the Chancellor to reform business rates to help shops survive the competition from the large online retail giants.
“Local shops have much to offer. I encourage people to back the Small Business Saturday campaign and shop local this weekend.”
