A Bushey-based animal rescue company has had to take drastic action to protect staff after they received a barrage of abuse.
Bushy Tail Cat Aid (BTCA) has raised money to provide staff with body cameras after they were targeted by protesters who are against neutering.
In a practice supported by the RSPCA, BTCA workers catch feral cats and neuter them before releasing them, in a practice known as trap-neuter-return.
BTCA had to call the police after four men jumped out of a van to yell at staff, while they have also received numerous threatening messages online.
In a Facebook post, BTCA said: “Physical abuse, death threats, aiming stones at us. It really is sheer madness.
“It [trap-neuter-return] does not harm an animal. This is a standard procedure, practiced in the whole civilised world for decades.”
A spokesperson for Cats Protection, the UK’s leading cat welfare charity, said: “Experience has shown us that feral cats we have neutered and released back into their environment rapidly improve in health, condition and life expectancy.”
