The search is on to recognise the excellent work of doctors, nurses, midwives and support staff at Watford, Hemel Hempstead and St Albans Hospitals. Every day in our hospitals staff go to extraordinary lengths to provide exceptional care and support for patients, their families or friends.  The new monthly Celebrating Excellence Staff Awards is a chance to shine a light on someone who does an incredible job and goes above and beyond the call of duty. Any of our 4,500 staff can be nominated, as well as our hundreds of volunteers and contractors, such as our catering and security teams. Making a nomination is really easy, either on line via our website or pick up a nomination form in our hospitals. Nurse Jane Roberts was announced this week as the first winner of a Celebrating Excellence Staff AwardJane was selected as the inaugural winner by our Patients’ Panel (a group that represents the views of our patients).  The Patients’ Panel felt that Jane involved patients in every aspect of her work and really valued their feedback in order to improve services within our hospitals. They were also impressed by Jane’s excellent leadership skills and how obviously proud she is of our hospitals.   Samantha Jones, the Trust’s Chief Executive, said: “Our new award aims to recognise staff whose efforts reflect our six values, which were created by patients and staff to improve our hospitals for everyone.   “I’m delighted to present Jane with the first award, particularly as she has been selected by our Patient’s Panel.  It is so important to involve our patients in everything we do to ensure that we continue to provide services which meet the needs of everyone. Jane clearly does this.   “We’d encourage anyone who has had really good care and who has been particularly impressed by a member of our staff to nominate them for a Celebrating Excellence Staff Award. What better way is there to say thank you?”   On receiving the award, Jane Roberts said: “This award means so much to me.  I am passionate about my work and, in particular, enjoy working with patients and finding ways in which we can improve the services we provide for them.”   For more information about our hospitals, visit  You can also join our 2,300 followers on Twitter ( or find us on Facebook (
