SAVE OUR BARN: Hemel residents urged to get involved in project to save beloved barn

Published on: 17th May 2024   |   By: Panayiota Demosthenous   |   Category: Uncategorized

Local resident Lisa Timms is leading a campaign to save a beloved building in Hemel Hempstead.

Since 2019, the Grade II listed Heath Barn has been left empty following the relocation of Dacorum Music School to Hemel Hempstead School.

Lisa set up the Our Heath Barn campaign to save the building, with hopes of creating an arts and wellbeing community centre. However, Hertfordshire County Council (HCC) has submitted plans to convert the site into five residential dwellings.

Lisa said: “Last year, I became very interested in the building. I began imagining the potential it had as a venue for community use. Since launching the campaign last November, I’ve been overwhelmed by the huge outpouring of affection for the barn. It was a special place to many people.”

The Our Heath Barn Facebook page has nearly 500 followers, with residents sharing their memories and photos of their experiences within the barn. Hundreds of students learned music within its walls, and it holds special memories as a venue for celebrations such as weddings.

Lisa continued: “We want to give the barn back to the community; a place for the community to gather, engage and flourish.”
