SUPER SWIMMER: Young Northwood athlete wins prestigious trophy at championships

A swimmer from Northwood has been awarded a prestigious trophy for her tremendous success so far this year.

Mia Garner, 13, is a competitive swimmer for the Borough of Harrow Swimming Club and attends The Royal Masonic School for Girls in Rickmansworth.

Earlier this year, Mia achieved incredible results at the 2024 Middlesex County Championships, scoring more World Aquatics points than any other girl aged under 17 at the event. World Aquatics points are used to score a swim against the current world record for that event, and are irrespective of age.

This was an astonishing feat for Mia, considering she was up against girls four years her senior in some events.

At the London Regional Championships, held at the iconic London Aquatics Centre on Saturday, April 27, Mia was awarded the highly prestigious Alan Lawrence Memorial Trophy. This award is given to the girl who gains the most World Aquatics points during the championships.

Speaking on behalf of her whole family, Mia’s mum Catherine said: “We are hugely proud of her!”
