Several shops in Hemel Hempstead have announced they can be used as safe places for those feeling vulnerable or scared in response to recent crimes.
Angel and Kierren, owners of Lucky Tattoo and Piercing in the Old Town posted on social media in January that their shop doors are open to anyone who is feeling unsafe.
Kierren said on Facebook:
“Due to the recent crime in the area, we would like to make it known that our shop can be used as a safe place.
Anyone who feels vulnerable, scared or uneasy is welcome to come in and wait for someone to collect/escort them home. A lot of children are being picked on, bullied or intimidated by nasty individuals. Please let them know they can come here until someone they trust can pick them up.”
The post was gratefully received by the community and has clocked up almost 3 thousand likes.
Kierren told MyHemelNews: “We were blown away by the positive reaction, we weren’t expecting that at all. The safe space is for both children and adults, giving them a safe environment out of harm’s way.”
Many businesses in Hemel Hempstead have now committed to helping keep Dacorum safe by providing safe spaces across the town.
These include Michael’s Barbers in Adeyfield, Tutor Mortgages Limited in Boxmoor, Chaulden Barber Shop, Bennetts Barber Shop and 112 Occasions Florist & Gift Shop in Adeyfield.
The idea of Safe Zones in Hemel Hempstead was first set up by local charity Youth Booth and Gemma Shuck back in October 2018, for anyone feeling scared or threatened.
In the last few weeks, there has been an influx of businesses offering their space to those in need, to help keep Hemel residents safe.
