REASON TO READ: Bookworms encouraged to join friendly and sociable club in Garston

A local book club is inviting new members to join the friendly group.

The Reason to Read book club is held at the Random Café at 1pm on the second Saturday of the month. The next session will be held on Saturday, July 13.

The club was founded in 2016 by Jane, Nici and Neal at Reason Coffee Shop and Bookstore, which was owned by the latter. Despite the closure of the shop in 2017, the club survived and relocated to Random Café.

At each meeting, members choose two books to read over the next month while discussing the books chosen in the previous session. Recently, the group has read The Clockwork Girl by Anna Mazzola, The Island of Missing Trees by Elif Shafak, and The Legend of Sleepy Hollow by Washington Irving, which Jane says was “a tough one!”.

Jane said: “It’s all about encouraging people to read because it’s a great form of escapism and a social activity. You get to hear other people’s views on books you have read and put yourself out of your comfort zone.”
