DO YOU REMEMBER: An old Abbots Langley address lost to time

Published on: 1st May 2023   |   By: Bryn Holmes   |   Category: Uncategorized

This photo is from 1955 and depicts an Abbots Langley house that no longer exists.

The home in the picture is 86 Gallows Lane, one of six or seven large houses built on plots of land owned by Mr East, who also resided in one of the houses in the 1930s.

Two of these plots were on Gallows Lane, with the rest along the east side of the northern end of Hazelwood Lane, near the junction with Gallows Hill Lane and Greenways.

The house in the photo was situated on the corner of Gallows Lane, and was where Penny Mayes and her family lived from 1954 to 1965. Her bedroom was the one with the round window.

All but one of the houses were demolished in the 1970s and replaced with 27 homes.

Do you have any historical photos of Abbots Langley? If so, please send them to us at newsdesk@mynewsmag.co.uk and they could feature in our of the magazine.
