Prime Minister David Cameron has praised the work of Watford charities DRUM and Home-Start, and commended them for the valuable work they have been doing in the local community. Sarah Sullivan of DRUM, and Emma Power of Home-Start, were invited by Watford MP Richard Harrington to a reception at No 10 Downing Street on January 5 in recognition of the work they have been doing to help and support local people and families. Richard explained that he was pleased to showcase some of the valuable work being done by Home-Start and Drum, and said how important it was that they knew this did not go unnoticed. He said: “There are so many people in Watford that go out of their way to help others, we really are lucky to live in a genuine community here where we do help each other. I’ve met so many of the volunteers at both of these charities and they genuinely make such a difference to people’s lives.” Richard also recently took volunteers from other organisations and charities, including Abbots Langley Good Neighbours Association, in recognition and support of their work. Sarah explained: “As a very small local Watford charity, it was a great honour to represent DRUM at No 10 and to meet the Prime Minister. Being one of the smaller groups in Watford and still user-led , it was a very proud moment for us to be recognised for the work that we do and to have had this opportunity. Richard has always been a great supporter of the smaller charities, especially DRUM, and we thank him for giving us a wonderful and memorable start to the New Year.” Emma Power, of Home-Start, added: “We are very grateful to Richard and appreciate the time and effort he puts into supporting and recognising not only Home-Start but many other charities who are small community organisations that main aim is make a significant difference to the community in which we live. “We are always looking for new volunteers to either become trained family support volunteers, Charity Shop volunteers, trustees and volunteers interested in fundraising. Home-Start is committed to improving the lives of children and their families by offering personalised, practical and emotional support in their own homes.
