Hemel Hempstead Town FC (HHTFC) recently took part in a charity football match to raise money in memory of a late former player.
Former HHTFC player Spencer McCall sadly lost his life to the rare bone cancer, Ewing sarcoma, in 2021. Since his passing, the club have launched an annual charity game to raise money in his memory.
This year, the Tudors faced Barnet FC at the Focus Arena on Saturday, July 20, as part of their preseason campaign. The match raised funds for Sarcoma UK and Frank’s Fund, two charities that support research into bone cancer.
Speaking to HEMELnews, a spokesperson for HHTFC said: “Preseason has seen us draw away to Bracknell Town 3-3 after being three goals down at halftime. In the second friendly, we beat Rayners Lane 2-0 and we beat Reading U21 by the same scoreline in the third pre-season game so far.
“It’s very much about giving players game time and working up to full fitness. It also gives new boss Bobby Wilkinson a chance to look at trialists, youth team players and the squad in general.”
After going 1-0 up, the Tudors sadly ended on the losing side of a 3-1 defeat. But despite the loss, the team put in a valiant effort, and the performance had some positives to take away heading into the new season.
