Watford Borough Council is abolishing its paper parking permits to provide a more efficient service for the residents and businesses that need them.
Instead, in the same way as vehicle tax, a record of a permit will be held on the council’s system once the application has been processed and payment received. The virtual permit will be linked to the car’s registration and civil enforcement officers will be able to check valid permits using handheld electronic devices.
This will make the application and renewal process faster and more efficient, because residents and businesses will be able to apply for a permit 24/7 and will no longer need to wait for a paper permit to arrive in the post.
All current paper permits should continue to be displayed until their shown expiry date – after which, you will no longer need to display one in your vehicle’s windscreen. Instead, simply register your details on our new system and your vehicle will be covered with a virtual permit.
Visitor vouchers for parking will be going paperless in July 2018. In the meantime, you should continue to apply for them via the usual paper application forms.

These changes will make applying for a parking permit hassle free so that people can spend more time doing the things that they enjoy.”
