Huddersfield Town’s Tom Ince struck late to deny Watford taking what looked like a point at the John Smith’s Stadium.
In a game of relatively few chances, Terriers substitute Ince scored in injury time with Town’s first shot on target to give the home side a dramatic and important win, while defeat for the Hornets hasn’t proved to be particularly damaging.
Javi Gracia’s side were unlucky not to come away from Yorkshire with anything when the two goal-bound efforts they mustered in the game were deflected wide.
Watford keeper Orestis Karnezis had been a virtual spectator before the goal, and his side perhaps deserved a point that would have eased any lingering fears the 12th-placed Hornets have of being dragged back into trouble.
The result will be frustrating for the Hornets as they have conceded late goals in their last few games, with Watford’s home against Bournemouth particularly painful as they let their 2-1 lead slip in injury time.
