When buying her daughter a new computer in the early 90s, Croxley resident Rilla Paterson couldn’t have known it would set her on the path of becoming a three-time published author.
On Friday, November 29, Rilla of Rousebarn Lane, released two more Singalong-‘n’-learn books, which aim to teach children how to sight-read.
Come Along Camel Calypso and Gotta Go, Camel are follow-ups to Camel-ong Cowboy. All three books contain songs composed by Rilla and feature a matching audio and video track that can be accessed by QR code.
Rilla’s first foray into music began when she discovered the Maestro program on her daughter’s Acorn computer.
Inspired by the BBC series and book Where on Earth Are We Going? by Jonathon Porritt, Rilla composed a musical, Child of the Future, for her children’s junior school.
Fast-forward to the COVID-19 lockdown and Rilla, now a grandmother of four, decided to complete some new songs.
Speaking to CROXLEYnews, Rilla said: “Sight-reading is an essential step in the journey towards group musical activities; without it, many doors are closed to those unable to afford music lessons.”
Now, her ambition is to get a copy of her books into every junior school library in the UK and to “get children singing the songs all round the corridors”.
